The Barong is a sacred mythological creature in Balinese culture, depicted as a lion-like being with intricate decorations, believed to be a guardian and protector of good. In traditional Balinese dance performances, the Barong is often featured battling against Rangda (the evil witch queen), symbolizing the eternal struggle between good and evil.

The village of Kintamani and Penelokan provide a great view of the still active Mount Batur and its fantastic lake. Seven miles in diameter and sixty feet deep, Batur caldera is simply astounding. From Penelokan, take the road Kedisan on the shores of the lake where boats can be rented to cross over to Trunyan.

This UNESCO World Heritage Site contains vast, undulating rice fields, preserved by ancient, sophisticated irrigation systems and farmers who manage the terraces as previous generations have done for thousands of years. What's the best way to explore it? You can explore this area freely.
